Arturia MatrixBrute Review

According to the official website, Arturia’s MatrixBrute is the most powerful analog monophonic synthesizer ever. I know that this is a big claim and that is why I am here to see whether this synthesizer is worth it or not. A MatrixBrute is an analog synthesizer with added Brute oscillators, a Steiner-Parker filter, ladder filter, five analog effects, and the modulation matrix. You can do many things with this synth. The MatrixBrute will be available in this year for those who are interested. the Arturia MatrixBrute was introduced in the 2016 NAMM Show. You can create your own routings with the synth using its modulation matrix. The modulation matrix is the most important part of Arturia MatrixBrute. Just by looking at this device I realized that it is an amazing piece of equipment. You can select any of the 256 presets that are available while performing on stage. The analog synth can also be used to program and play sequences. At least it looks cool but looks are not everything right. Here is a brief look at some of the specs of MatrixBrute.

Three Analog Oscillators: The three Brute oscillators are saw, pulse and tri along with a sub-oscillator.

Noise Generator: The Noise Generator provides you with four types of noises. The noise types are White, Pink, Red and Blue.

Audio Mod: This section provides you with a complex oscillator and filter FM possibilities.

Performance Controls: There are performance controls like pitch bend, mod wheels and 4 Macro encoders and they can be assigned to any of the modulation destinations as per your preference.

Voice Modes: There are multiple keyboard modes such as mono, paraphonic and duo-split modes.

Three LFO’s: There are two standalone LFO’s with 7 waveforms and trigger modes. There is also a third LFO that is added by the combination of VCO/LFO.

USB: USB I/O can be used to interface to a computer DAW directly and you can also use this to use the free editor/librarian software that is provided for the MatrixBrute.

The Matrix: The Matrix allows complex modulation routing, step-sequencing and instant preset recall. You can assign any of the 16 modulation sources to any of 16 mod destinations by using the Modulation Routing. You can recall any of the 256 presets using the Preset mode. The Matrix can also be used as a 64 step sequencer.

256 Memory Locations: The MatrixBrute allows you to not only store but recall your favorite sounds. The MIDI control Center editor application allows you to organize, save and load new banks of sound. The MatrixBrute already comes loaded with 128 factory presets.

Ladder Filter: The Ladder Filter comes with 12db and 24db per octave slopes as well as Low Pass, High Pass and Band Pass modes and a Drive control.

Pros

The Arturia MatrixBrute has several advantages and without wasting any more time let us take a look at them.

The modulation matrix is the best part of Arturia’s MatrixBrute. The modulation matrix gives you complex modulation routing options and extensive sound design possibilities. You can set presets in any of the 256 available locations. The modulation matrix allows you to assign any of the 16 modulation sources to any of the 16 modulation destinations and 4 destinations can be programmed by the user.

I like the Keyboard which is a 49 note keyboard piano.

There are analog effects available and they can be set as modulation destinations in the Matrix. You can use these to enhance your overall experience.

The options that the MatrixBrute gives you are high in numbers and you will have a hard time getting used to all of them.

The looks of the synth are also pretty amazing and they will surely impress everyone else around you.

In terms of connectivity the MatrixBrute does not falls short at all. You can use the USB connections to connect it to the editor and patch librarian software for easy management.

Cons

I do not think that there are any cons related to MatrixBrute. The device is costly, at least in my opinion.

Price

I could not find the price of the product from official website but it is around $1999. The price is fair because this is a “in depth” serious synth.

Conclusion

I loved this product overall and this is definitely going to have a huge impact. The product is indeed powerful and comes loaded with features. There are several advantages of using this product and I have explained them throughout this review. The price is also not too much taking into account the features of MatrixBrute a monophonic analog synthesizer. I know you will love this product if you have a passion for creating music.
